Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that the country is suing Google for changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to 'Gulf of America' on Google Maps. The action comes after US Republicans passed legislation supporting the renaming. Sheinbaum emphasized that Trump's executive order only applies to the portion of the US continental shelf, not the entire Gulf. Mexico is asserting its rights over geographic symbols and suggesting a tongue-in-cheek name for the US, 'America Mexicana', referring to the territorial history.
