Meta Group, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, will ban political advertisements in the European Union from October because of the complicated requirements of the EU's Transparency of Political Advertising Regulation. The company points to the operational challenges and legal uncertainties created by the rules, which aim to ensure transparency and prevent outside interference in elections. Meta is not the only company to make the move, with Google previously announcing a similar decision. This legislation was passed in response to the 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal, which highlighted abuses in the use of personal data.
