In a rare public appearance in Berlin, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel emphasized that measures to combat climate change must not be questioned: "I believe it is very important that the decisions we have made are implemented as much as possible."
She recalled the initial skepticism towards technologies such as the catalytic converter and emission standards, highlighting that once the business environment was informed, it managed to deliver results. Merkel expressed regret that China has surpassed Germany in electric vehicle production and warned that climate change remains an urgent problem, mentioning that we are approaching critical turning points.
To the applause of the audience, she reaffirmed that combating global warming must remain a priority on the global agenda.
