Angela Merkel on the political crisis in Romania: "There are issues that need to be addressed and we need people who are willing to make compromises. I believe you have some."

The former German chancellor Angela Merkel, who launched her book "Freedom. Memories 1954 - 2021" on Tuesday at the Romanian Athenaeum, stated that Romania has achieved a lot in recent decades, expressing her confidence in finding a compromise that would lead to the formation of a government.

"I can only say that something is happening in general in our societies and through social and digital media, namely the value of compromise is increasingly under pressure. There is no region, no party, or any government that has an absolute majority. And within the party, there are all kinds of different ideas and factions, if you are not willing to make a compromise. And I can only wish that in Romania there are so many people who respect the other parties so much that they come together, because we cannot go to elections twice a year. Elections are the results of citizens' thoughts. They do not come down from a clear sky. And Romania has achieved a lot in recent decades. Maybe not everything at the desired speed, but there are issues that need to be addressed and we need people who are willing to make compromises. (...)
