The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, emphasized on Tuesday that relations with the United States must return to normal, after a public dispute with American President Donald Trump.
This was triggered by Trump's statements, in which he claimed that Meloni "begged" him to take a picture with her at the G7 summit in France. Meloni dismissed these statements, calling them "completely fabricated" and expressed regret over Trump's behavior towards allies.
The dispute continued with Trump insisting that Meloni asked for a photo "again and again" and suggested that she is trying to improve her low popularity. Meloni responded that her popularity does not depend on her relationship with Trump and reaffirmed Italy's commitment to sovereignty and national interests.
