The Metropolitan Detention Center in New York (MDC), located in Brooklyn, is known for its harsh conditions and has been dubbed 'Hell on Earth.' Approximately 1,200 individuals are incarcerated here, including famous names such as Nicolas Maduro, Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, and Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
Former inmate Ghislaine Maxwell described the conditions as 'inhumane and degrading,' comparing them to those of the character Hannibal Lecter. Additionally, former Mexican Secretary of Public Security, Genaro Garcia Luna, denounced the violence inside.
In 2019, MDC was the subject of protests due to the lack of electricity and heat, and inmates filed a class-action lawsuit, receiving compensation for the inhumane conditions. Currently, Sinaloa cartel leader Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada Garcia is awaiting trial in this prison.
