Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right in France, announced that she will not run in the presidential elections of 2027 if she is sentenced to wear an electronic ankle bracelet, even if her electoral ban is lifted.

In a recent interview, Le Pen acknowledged that she is facing legal issues, including a possible four-year prison sentence for embezzlement, but stated that she has not completely lost hope of running. She emphasized that an electoral campaign would be impossible under such a restriction. Le Pen also stated that she would make way for Jordan Bardella if she cannot participate in the elections.

Although polls place her first for the first round, legal uncertainty prevents the party from starting the campaign. Le Pen has previously been convicted of misappropriation of funds from the European Parliament.
