The American senator, Marco Rubio, stated that Iran is trying to 'take the world hostage' through its attacks on Gulf countries and by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. During a ceremony at the State Department, Rubio emphasized the threat that the Iranian clerical regime poses to the region and the world, mentioning the attacks on energy infrastructure and civilian populations in neighboring countries.

He stated that the goal of the current mission is to destroy Iran's ability to continue these attacks. Rubio also recalled the case of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who went missing in Iran, highlighting the nature of the regime in Tehran. The U.S. and Israel have begun an air offensive against Iran, and Rubio pointed out that the actions of this regime are a continuation of the history of hostage-taking.
