A 61-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being pulled into an MRI machine because of a metal chain around his neck.

The incident took place in Westbury, Nassau County, when the man, who was not a patient, entered the scanning room without permission and was attracted to the machine's magnetic field. Transported in critical condition to hospital, he suffered possibly serious injuries, including strangulation or spinal trauma. The authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident and the medical facility is reassessing safety measures regarding access to areas with MRI equipment.
