James Donald Vance Jr., a 67-year-old man from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was sentenced to two years in prison after he made death threats on the social network Bluesky, targeting Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Donald Trump Jr. Between March and April 2025, he posted messages under the pseudonym 'Diaperjdv', in which he stated that if the mentioned individuals came to his city, they would leave "in a body bag."

Federal Judge Paul L. Maloney deemed his behavior as "serious conduct" that warranted a punishment to deter such threats. He pleaded guilty to two counts, each carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison. The federal prosecutor emphasized the importance of using the internet for a healthy exchange of ideas, warning that threats exceed acceptable limits.
