Roberto Mazzarella, one of the most wanted mafia bosses in Italy, was arrested on Friday evening in a luxury villa on the Amalfi Coast, where he was hiding with his family. Mazzarella, leader of the Mazzarella clan of the Camorra, had been wanted since January 28, 2025, for murder charges related to the killing of Antonio Maione in 2000. His flight lasted more than a year until the carabinieri launched a large-scale operation, involving special forces and aerial surveillance, to capture him.
During the raid, 20,000 euros in cash and luxury goods were discovered. The arrest was welcomed by Italian officials, who emphasized its importance in the fight against organized crime and the restoration of public order. Mazzarella controls smuggling and drug trafficking activities in southern Italy, and his capture represents a significant step in combating the mafia.
