In a rare press conference, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused the United States of military threats, mentioning the deployment of eight ships and a submarine that would target Venezuela. Maduro claims that the U.S. is seeking a regime change through military pressure, in the context of a greater concentration of American naval forces in the Caribbean. Although Washington has not directly threatened invasion, it has accused Maduro's regime of links to drug trafficking. Maduro stated that the Venezuelan army is prepared to defend the country and has activated a special defense plan.
