The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, sent a letter to Vladimir Putin, proposing a meeting, and Emmanuel Macron appreciated this initiative as "good". Macron emphasized that he has always supported direct negotiations between Ukraine and the Kremlin, believing that both countries can build a ceasefire and a peace plan, with the help of Europeans. He invited the countries contributing to the coalition of volunteers for Ukraine's security to meet in Paris, on the occasion of the national day on July 14. Macron mentioned that he will meet with Zelensky soon, without providing further details.
He also expressed the desire to structure discussions with Russia to address common interests. The war in Ukraine is at an impasse, and Kyiv is intensifying attacks on Russian infrastructure, while Russian forces are no longer making significant advances in eastern Ukraine. Macron rejected the proposal to leave the entire Donbas to Russia, considering it unacceptable in the current context.
