France “fully” supports the call for a genuine energy truce between Russia and Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron said following Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. Macron said Ukraine is ready to observe the truce, but Russia continues to reject it and has intensified its attacks in recent hours.
The French president reaffirmed Paris’s support for Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, Macron did not directly refer to Donald Trump’s calls for a change of leadership in Kyiv, nor to the agreement announced by the U.S. president with Russia concerning diesel fuel deliveries.
Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Moscow and Kyiv had agreed to an “energy truce,” which would involve halting attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure. “Do not violate it,” Trump wrote on his social media platform. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was surprised by the announcement, while Russia’s position and the agreement’s concrete implementation remain unclear. France announced that it would continue to stand by Ukraine throughout the negotiations.
