Upon his arrival in Armenia for the European Political Community summit, French President Emmanuel Macron called for a concerted reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the United States. Macron expressed skepticism regarding the new operation, Project Liberty, launched by American President Donald Trump, considering its framework "unclear".
Trump announced an operation to unblock ships stranded in the Persian Gulf, while an Iranian military commander warned that the American army would be attacked if it approached the strait. Macron indicated that his initiative, together with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to secure navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, would not be implemented as long as hostilities between the US and Iran persist, while also emphasizing the importance of respecting the ceasefire in Lebanon, in the context of recent Israeli attacks.
