Following legislative changes regarding immigration, Latvia has ordered a number of 841 Russian citizens to leave the country by October 13, as they failed to demonstrate knowledge of the Latvian language and pass the national security check. Since the beginning of 2022, after the invasion of Ukraine, Latvia has imposed stricter rules for Russian citizens, who must obtain long-term resident status and meet language requirements by 2025. Approximately 30,000 Russians are affected by these regulations, and 2,600 have already voluntarily left the country.
