In a speech on the occasion of a celebration, Khamenei emphasized that the president and officials are working to resolve economic difficulties, in the context of a severe crisis characterized by the collapse of the rial, rising inflation, and corruption. Protests have recently erupted, led by merchants and vendors from bazaars, who closed their shops and took to the streets. Since the beginning of the protests, over 30 people have been arrested, and six have died as a result of the authorities' intervention.

At the same time, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that "the rebels... must be put in their place."
