The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, publicly apologized to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, expressing his regret for the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as the UK ambassador to the USA. Starmer acknowledged that at the time of the appointment in December 2024, he was not aware of the closeness between Mandelson and Epstein, stating that the available information did not indicate a problematic relationship.

The Prime Minister initially wanted to make public the verification advice received before Mandelson's appointment, but decided not to proceed at the request of the police, in order not to affect an ongoing investigation. Starmer emphasized that although it was known that Mandelson knew Epstein, the depth of their relationship was not known. In front of reporters, he addressed the victims, apologizing for the disappointments caused by those in power, including himself.
