The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, will visit Budapest on Tuesday to support Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, just a few days before the parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday.
This meeting, according to the Index.hu portal, will include a joint appearance before the press and participation in a rally of the Fidesz party, led by Orban. The White House has confirmed the visit, emphasizing the importance of the alliance between the US and Hungary. Orban, who has been in power since 2010 and is an ally of Donald Trump, is now facing fierce competition from conservative leader Peter Magyar, who is leading in the polls.
Vance's visit comes in the context where Orban risks losing power after 16 years of stable governance.
Recent polls show that Magyar's party has a significant lead, with 56% of the votes, compared to 37% for Fidesz.
