American Vice President JD Vance was set to leave for Pakistan on Tuesday morning, but he postponed his trip in the context of increasing uncertainty regarding the conduct of a new round of direct negotiations between the USA and Iran. The first round of negotiations, which took place in Islamabad on April 11, ended without success. Government sources confirmed that Vance will participate in meetings at the White House instead of being en route to Islamabad, as Iran has not yet confirmed sending a delegation for new discussions. Tehran is dissatisfied with President Donald Trump's refusal to lift the blockade on Iranian ports. The two-week ceasefire between the USA and Iran expires on Wednesday, and Trump has stated that it will not be extended without a peace agreement, threatening to resume airstrikes. The Pakistan-mediated negotiations aim to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resolve issues related to Iran's enriched uranium.
