The Israeli army announced that it has shot down an Iranian YAK-130 fighter jet using an F-35I "Adir", marking a historic event as it is the first time a manned fighter jet has been shot down by an F-35.

The event took place over Tehran and marks the first aerial combat of the Israeli Air Force with a manned aircraft in approximately 40 years.

The YAK-130, of Russian manufacture, has been integrated into Iranian forces for air patrol missions, having advanced capabilities but limited in air-to-air operations. Although it is considered the most modern aircraft in Iran's inventory, the YAK-130 is not designed for intense aerial confrontations.
