Israel announces that it has attacked Iran in response to being targeted by Iranian missiles.

Israel launched airstrikes on Monday morning against the central and western regions of Iran, in response to the rocket fire launched by Tehran. Iranian state television reported that explosions were heard in Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz, and Tehran, without providing immediate details. 

The Revolutionary Guard, Iran's paramilitary formation, stated that Israel used air-launched ballistic missiles in the attack on Monday morning, without providing further details.

For several days, negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding the fragile ceasefire in the conflict had been stalled due to the fighting between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah. Israel currently occupies southern Lebanon and has advanced into areas of the country that it had not controlled for a quarter of a century — raising fears of a possible expansion of its military campaign.
