Israel is preparing to increase its defense budget by nearly 40 billion shekels (approximately 13 billion dollars), which represents 2% of its GDP. This increase, part of a budget amendment for 2026, will be debated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet and will require parliamentary approval. The defense budget will reach 140 billion shekels, 115% more than in 2023, and will mainly cover military replenishment and the payment of reserve soldiers. Since the beginning of the conflict with Iran, the army has mobilized over 100,000 reservists, exceeding the initial limit. The budget deficit could be increased, and the government has already announced austerity measures of about 30 billion shekels to support war efforts. Approved until March 31, the budget is now supported by all coalition parties, despite previous frictions.
