Israel attacked the Asaluyeh petrochemical complex on Monday, the largest in Iran, in an action described by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz as a severe economic blow to Tehran. Katz stated that the Israeli army targeted a strategic site that accounts for approximately half of Iran's petrochemical production.
The explosions were confirmed by the Iranian news agency Fars, which reported attacks on companies supplying electricity, water, and oxygen to the complex. Although the electricity supply was interrupted, the Pars petrochemical company did not suffer significant damage.
The Asaluyeh complex is essential for the exploitation of the South Pars/North Dome natural gas field, the largest in the world. This is not the first Israeli attack on Iranian energy infrastructure; a similar action took place in March when Israel struck the South Pars gas field, provoking strong reactions from Tehran.
