Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims that Israel warned the United Kingdom, on September 8, about an alleged Iranian plot targeting RAF Fairford air base. The statement was made on Wednesday evening, in an interview with Fox News, amid Netanyahu’s criticism of the pressure exerted by London on his government.
The warning was reportedly issued before British authorities announced measures to ban imports of goods originating from Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Netanyahu said that the information was provided to British police and security services.
The incident at RAF Fairford air base was investigated for three days, including with the support of a bomb disposal team. British police announced that they had not identified explosives in the vehicles inspected, but had recovered a quantity of gasoline.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were strong indications of Iranian involvement in suspicious activities near the base, which is used by U.S. forces. Tehran categorically rejected the accusations, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that London was “knocking on the wrong door.”
