Iran's nuclear program is controversial, with allegations of non-proliferation violations from the IAEA. Although Tehran claims it enriches uranium for peaceful purposes, US intelligence agencies believe it had a secret nuclear weapons program. After the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran increased the purity of its enriched uranium to 60%, enough to produce up to nine nuclear weapons. Israel's sanctions and attacks have not limited enrichment, and Iran maintains its right to continue the process.
