In a context of massive protests, which represent the greatest challenge for the Iranian leadership in years, the head of the national police, Ahmad-Reza Radan, issued an ultimatum to the protesters, demanding that they surrender within three days to benefit from lighter penalties. The government acknowledged the economic difficulties that have generated the demonstrations, but also promised severe reprisals against those considered instigators of violence. In recent days, approximately 3,000 arrests have been reported, but human rights organizations estimate that the number could reach 20,000.

Additionally, the UN has warned that Iran uses executions as a tool of intimidation, having the highest execution rate after China. Despite the difficulties in accessing information due to an internet shutdown, NGOs claim that over 3,400 protesters have been killed by security forces. The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, stated that he will support Iran in overcoming this difficult period.
