Iranian security forces began a massive campaign of arrests and increased street presence after Israeli air strikes on June 13. Although many Iranians are unhappy with the government, there have been no significant protests. The authorities fear possible internal uprisings, especially in Kurdish areas, and have put paramilitary units on high alert. Activists in Iran avoid action, fearing reprisals, and many arrested are accused of spying for Israel.
