Lennart Monterlos, a 19-year-old with dual French-German citizenship, was released by Iranian authorities after they dropped espionage charges against him. Monterlos had been arrested on June 16 in Bandar Abbas during a cycling trip from Europe to Asia. France condemned his detention as arbitrary and called for the release of other French citizens imprisoned in Iran, including the couple Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who are accused of espionage. There are discussions regarding a possible prisoner exchange between France and Iran.
