Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, has issued a directive prohibiting the sending of uranium enriched close to the level necessary for nuclear weapons abroad, a key requirement of the United States in peace negotiations. This position could complicate discussions between Washington and Tehran, especially as Israeli officials have emphasized that any peace agreement must include the elimination of uranium from Iran.

Additionally, Iranian officials are suspicious of U.S. intentions, believing that a pause in hostilities could be a tactical maneuver. Iran has stated that it is willing to negotiate details related to its nuclear program, but only after receiving guarantees that there will be no attacks from the U.S. or Israel. Furthermore, Iran has refused to give up its stockpile of enriched uranium, which further complicates the situation. The International Atomic Energy Agency estimates that Iran possesses a significant amount of enriched uranium, and the fate of this stockpile remains a major point of contention in ongoing negotiations.
