Iran has announced that its ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad Reza Shibani, will remain in his position, defying the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, which declared him persona non grata and asked him to leave the country by March 29. This situation has generated tensions between Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group, and the Lebanese government, which has criticized Hezbollah's involvement in the regional war.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry accused the ambassador of violating diplomatic conventions through his statements regarding the country's internal policy. The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Shibani will continue to exercise his function in Beirut.
Meanwhile, Israel reacted, stating that Iran "is mocking" Lebanon, emphasizing that the country is practically occupied by Iranian influence. This diplomatic crisis comes in a context of increased violence in the region, with Hezbollah actively involved in the conflict with Israel.
