British authorities are searching for a suspect following the death of former parliamentarian Ann Widdecombe

An investigation for murder was launched on Friday in connection with the death of Ann Widdecombe, a former member of the British Parliament, found dead in her home in the southwest of England.

At 78 years old, Widdecombe suffered 'serious injuries' when she was discovered on Thursday in Haytor, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, according to a statement from Devon and Cornwall police. Authorities are searching for a white male as a suspect. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described the circumstances of the death as 'extremely concerning.' Widdecombe became known after leaving Parliament, serving as a commentator on television and participating in entertainment shows.

She was a member of the Conservative Party and held socially conservative views, being against abortion rights and the expansion of LGBTQ rights. Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised her as a 'heroic Brexiteer.' After retiring from politics, she continued to be actively involved in campaigns, having a life dedicated to Christian values and public service.
