Jessica Tisch, the head of the New York Police Department (NYPD), announced the opening of an internal investigation after a video recording of a violent arrest of an African American was publicly broadcast. The incident occurred in an alcohol store in Brooklyn, where two police officers, one in uniform and the other in plain clothes, attempted to subdue a man using violent methods, repeatedly hitting him. Following the arrest, one officer crushed the man's leg with his foot. Tisch described the recording as "disturbing" and confirmed that the case is being investigated by the Internal Affairs Bureau. The two involved officers have been reassigned to administrative duties, and their weapons and badges have been temporarily taken away. New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, condemned the officers' violence as "extremely shocking and intolerable." It appears that the officers mistook the man for a drug dealer.
