A conflict between two families over a water point in eastern Chad has led to the death of 42 people and the injury of another 10, according to statements from Deputy Prime Minister Limane Mahamat. The clashes occurred in the village of Igote, in the Wadi Fira province, near the border with Sudan. Mahamat mentioned that retaliations have escalated, and the army intervened to control the situation.

The government has initiated a mediation process and will conduct judicial actions to establish criminal responsibility. Interhuman clashes over resources are common in Chad, and the eastern region is facing increasing pressure due to Sudanese refugees fleeing from war. Additionally, the government has closed the border with Sudan to limit the spread of the conflict. The war in Sudan has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 people and has generated the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with over 14 million displaced persons.
