The new Icelandic government led by Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir plans to hold a referendum on the country's accession to the European Union by 2027. The announcement comes amid growing support for membership among the Icelandic population, according to a June poll. The government also plans to reduce the number of ministries to cut administrative costs.
