The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has announced that agents in the Law Enforcement and Removal division will no longer initiate traffic stops for immigrants illegally present in the United States, according to CNN sources.
ICE personnel will adopt other methods for conducting immigration law enforcement operations and will collaborate with other law enforcement agencies in executing criminal warrants. This decision comes in the wake of two recent fatal incidents in which a Colombian citizen and a Mexican citizen were shot by ICE agents during operations.
Additionally, earlier this year, ICE agents were involved in the killing of two American citizens in Minneapolis. The ICE spokesperson mentioned that the agency is constantly reevaluating procedures to ensure the safety of agents and combat crime, but did not provide further details about the new law enforcement methods.
