Andrew and Tristan Tate cannot be extradited to the United Kingdom or Romania without official requests from the respective governments, according to lawmakers in Hong Kong.
They dismissed claims that the city would be a refuge for fugitives, emphasizing that the Tate brothers benefit from the presumption of innocence. During their visit, the brothers were greeted by supporters and posted on social media, with Andrew mocking the extradition requests.
Hong Kong has no extradition treaties with Romania, and the agreement with the United Kingdom was suspended in 2020. Local authorities cannot act without official requests, and lawmakers highlighted the importance of expanding judicial cooperation to prevent providing a refuge for criminals.
Additionally, the Tate brothers are facing criminal charges in Romania and the United Kingdom, but they deny all allegations.
