British prosecutors have officially sent the United States requests for the extradition of brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are accused in the United Kingdom of rape, human trafficking for sexual purposes, and other offenses. The requests were submitted last week to the U.S. Department of State, which is checking whether the documents comply with the extradition treaty between London and Washington.

After the review is completed, the requests will be forwarded to the Department of Justice and subsequently brought before a U.S. court, which will decide whether the extradition can take place. Andrew Tate faces 10 counts of rape, three of trafficking for sexual exploitation, and three of assault causing bodily harm. He is also accused of offenses involving indecent images of a minor and extreme pornography materials. Tristan Tate is accused, among other things, of five counts of rape, three sexual trafficking offenses, and sexual assault.

The lawyer for the two men claims that the requests are not accompanied by the necessary documentation and has announced that he will challenge them. The Tate brothers, who have been detained in Miami since July, deny all the accusations. A judge recently ruled that they must remain in custody, considering that they had not demonstrated that they posed no flight risk or danger to the community. The case is unfolding in parallel with the criminal proceedings in Romania.
