A jury in Los Angeles has issued a landmark ruling in favor of a young woman, Kaley, who sued Meta and Google for her childhood addiction to social media. In the verdict delivered on Wednesday, the jury found that the two companies intentionally built addictive social platforms that negatively impacted the young woman's mental health. This decision could influence hundreds of similar cases currently underway in U.S. courts. Meta's lawyers argued that, although Kaley faced difficulties in her life, the use of Instagram - owned by Meta, along with Facebook and WhatsApp - did not cause or significantly contribute to these issues.
