The historic wooden church, built in 1912, was successfully relocated five kilometers away to the town of Kiruna in Sweden due to ground instability caused by underground iron ore mining. Thousands of onlookers watched the relocation process, which took place on a special platform at a speed of about 500 meters per hour and was expected to last two days. Kiruna is in the process of relocating its entire city center because of the risk of building collapse.
