The President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, rejected the calls from American President Donald Trump to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing corruption charges. Herzog acknowledged Trump's contribution to the release of hostages from Gaza, but emphasized that Israel is a sovereign state and its legal system must be respected.

Netanyahu has been on trial for over five years for fraud, breach of trust, and bribery. Trump has requested Netanyahu's pardon, believing that the charges are politically motivated. Recently, Netanyahu officially requested a pardon, and Herzog stated that the request is being reviewed by the Ministry of Justice and his team of legal advisors.
