The crash happened at around 9:20 on Monday morning when the helicopter, which was conducting a flying lesson, crashed in a field near Shanklin. Three people died and one passenger was taken in critical condition to hospital. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, and eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft spun before it went down. Northumbria Helicopters, which operated the aircraft, confirmed the flight took off from Sandown Airport.
