The office of the Israeli Prime Minister announced that the remains of three Israeli soldiers, kidnapped on October 7, 2023, have been identified and returned by Hamas. These remains raise the total number of deceased hostages whose bodies have been returned by the Islamist movement to 20, out of a total of 28 that they must hand over. The identified soldiers are Captain Omer Neutra, Corporal Oz Daniel, and Colonel Assaf Hamami, the latter being the highest-ranking officer to have fallen into the hands of Hamas.
The remains were handed over by the Red Cross, as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which includes the return of all hostages. Although a fragile truce is maintained in Gaza, Israel accuses Hamas of slowing down the return of the bodies, while the Islamist organization claims that the delays are caused by the rubble in the area.
