In an interview with POLITICO, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the parties involved in the Middle East conflict could commit war crimes, following recent attacks on energy facilities. Guterres emphasized that the increased number of civilian casualties exposes both parties to accusations of war crimes, stating that attacks on civilians are unacceptable.

He called for de-escalation of the conflict and urged the US to convince Israel to end the war. Guterres mentioned that Russia is the main beneficiary of the crisis in Iran, highlighting that it profits from the unstable situation in the region. He also referred to the joint attacks by the US and Israel against Iran, which have led to an escalation of violence.
