Russia has the resources to continue the war in Ukraine for another two years, according to the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence service

Russia is affected by economic problems, but still has sufficient resources to continue the war against Ukraine until 2027-2028, Oleh Ivashchenko, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, stated in an interview with Ukrinform, as cited by the BBC.

According to the official, the main vulnerabilities of the Russian economy are the lack of labor, the growing federal budget deficit, and the deterioration of the banking system. Ivashchenko warned, however, that these difficulties have not yet exhausted Moscow’s resources for sustaining the conflict.

The GUR chief emphasized that international sanctions must produce stronger effects, and that Ukraine must continue cooperating with its partners to limit Russia’s ability to finance and fuel the war.

Ivashchenko also stated that more than 60% of Russian citizens would already oppose the war, against the backdrop of economic difficulties and losses on the front. The official believes that public dissatisfaction will grow, although it is unclear whether it will turn into a sufficiently strong protest movement.
