Starting in October, Germany will pay the salaries of approximately 11,000 employees of the American military bases on its territory, due to the budget paralysis in the United States. The German Ministry of Finance has announced that it will incur an exceptional expense to ensure timely salary payments, with these costs to be reimbursed by the American side.

The German union Verdi has requested the government to ensure that the civilian employees of the American armed forces in Germany receive their salaries, in the context where part of the American federal administration is shut down, and hundreds of thousands of employees have been placed on technical unemployment. The affected employees work in various fields, including logistics, health, and security, and in the past, they continued to receive their salaries even during budget shutdowns.
