The German government has announced that it is prepared to receive 535 Afghans from Pakistan, who fled after the Taliban returned to power and who have received a promise of relocation to Germany. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that German authorities are in contact with their Pakistani counterparts to resolve these cases quickly, hoping to finalize the process by the end of the year, although some cases may be reviewed next year.

The announcement comes after NGOs urged the government to honor the promise of relocating 1,800 Afghan refugees, including former employees and activists for human rights. Chancellor Friedrich Merz initially suspended the relocation program, but the judiciary compelled the government to accept some refugees. Additionally, the German government has offered money to Afghans in Pakistan to abandon their plans to reach Germany, and 62 individuals have accepted this offer.
