The law states that, starting next year, all young people aged 18 will receive an online questionnaire to assess their interest in military service. Men are required to complete the questionnaire, while women participate voluntarily. The Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, proposes the recruitment of 15,000 new soldiers and mandatory recruitment from 2027, as well as measures to increase the attractiveness of the Bundeswehr, including raising the salary to over 2,000 euros net per month. Germany urgently needs soldiers to fulfill its NATO and national defense obligations.
