G7 Summit: AI, a central topic in the discussions of major industrial powers

The Group of Seven (G7) summit was marked by discussions about the wars in Iran and Ukraine, but attention will turn to artificial intelligence (AI) on the last day of the meeting.

At a working lunch dedicated to the safe and effective implementation of AI, leaders from top companies will participate, including Sam Altman (OpenAI), Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind), and Dario Amodei (Anthropic), along with representatives from smaller labs around the world. In Europe, distrust towards American AI companies has increased, with the European Commission promoting technological sovereignty, and the Pope calling for strict regulations.

Recently, Anthropic withdrew its advanced AI models due to an order from the Trump administration, highlighting the vulnerability of non-American countries to access restrictions. The G7 meeting provides a platform for leaders to discuss the risks and benefits of AI, in a context where countries seek to leverage this technology for economic development and geopolitical objectives.
