Roland Lescure, the French Minister of Finance, stated that the G7 countries have not yet reached an agreement on the release of strategic oil reserves, following an emergency meeting convened due to the attacks in Iran on oil facilities.
The price of Brent crude has exceeded the threshold of 100 dollars/barrel, even reaching 120 dollars/barrel. The Japanese Minister of Finance, Satsuki Katayama, mentioned that the International Energy Agency (IEA) has requested a coordinated release of reserves.
The IEA holds over 1.2 billion barrels in strategic reserves, and Executive Director Fatih Birol confirmed that all options are being discussed. Currently, transit through the Strait of Hormuz is below 10% of the pre-war average, and analysts predict high fluctuations in oil prices in the coming weeks. The G7 holds significant strategic reserves, with Japan having the largest stocks, covering 254 days of consumption.
